Rules of Hnefatafl
Objective:

The white pieces (and the green king) aim to escape the board, reaching one of the corners.

The black pieces try to capture the king before he reaches a corner.
Setup:

The king (green pawn) starts in the center of the board.
-
White pawns are placed around the king.
-
Black pawns are positioned along the edges of the board.
Movement:
-
Pawns move horizontally or vertically, any number of empty squares.
-
Pawns cannot jump over other pieces.
-
Movement is allowed only through empty spaces.
Capturing:
-
A pawn is captured if opposed on two opposite sides by enemy pawns (in a straight line).
-
The king usually requires being surrounded on all four sides to be captured (some historical variants require three sides).
Winning:

White wins if the king reaches one of the corner squares.
-
Black wins if the king is captured before reaching a corner.
