Saint Wenceslaus Helmet – Early Medieval Helmet with a Nasal Inspired by the 10th-Century Original

The Saint Wenceslaus Helmetis a faithful reconstruction of one of the oldest known European helmets with a nasal, inspired by the 10th-century artifact preserved in Prague. Considered the earliest surviving example of this type, it reflects both practical protection and the prestige of a medieval warrior.

Crafted from approximately 1.5 mm thick mild steel, the helmet offers an excellent balance of durability and historical authenticity. Its pointed conical crown is designed to deflect incoming strikes, while the solid nasal provides essential facial protection. The polished finish highlights the craftsmanship of medieval armourers, making this helmet suitable both for active use and for display.

Inside, the helmet is fitted with an adjustable stitched leather suspension liner that distributes weight evenly and ensures comfort during prolonged wear. A sturdy leather chin strap with a brass buckle keeps the helmet secure—whether during training, historical reenactments, or LARP events.

This iconic style of helmet with a nasal is prominently depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry, worn by Norman knights during the conquest of England in 1066. According to legend, William the Conqueror himself raised a helmet with a nasal above his head during the Battle of Hastings to prove he was still alive, boosting the morale of his troops.

Authentic and versatile, the helmet pairs perfectly with a chainmail coif (sold separately), allowing reenactors, collectors, and enthusiasts to recreate the appearance of warriors, knights, and nobles from across medieval Europe.
